Henry's Check-up & 1st Swim

Henry is one day shy of 6 weeks today and had a visit with Dr. Meredith. He weighed in at 10lbs. 11 0z., was 22" long and his head is 15" around. He's growing big and strong!

Because he is not quite 6 weeks, we will go back on Friday for his first set of immunizations.

Other developments, he's been smiling, and tracking our faces as we move. He has been making new cute noises and has gone for his very first swim! He seemed to like it! See, he's smiling!

Smiling Boy

I have a ton of work to do, so I'll make this short and sweet.
We took Henry to his first music festival this weekend, and the boy got to see his daddy perform for the first time. He has, of course, heard me perform plenty of times, but I imagine that layers of skin and placenta can muffle things a bit, so this was a momentous time.

The three of us had a great time, checking out music, seeing friends, eating good (mostly free!) food, and just enjoying a nice weekend in a cabin in the gorgeous setting that is Lake Eden and its surroundings, in Black Mountain, NC.

Henry chose this weekend to start smiling regularly. Beth had already seen him smile a few times at her, and I've seen sleep smiles from the boy, but for the first time, he consistently stared up at his parents' faces and broke out in a huge, cute, messy smile.

My heart is still melted.

Getting Strong

Old speckle is stronger by the day, lifting his head higher and higher. He also is focussing his eyes more and making very cute noises. More changes to come soon.

Back from the Beach

We just got back from a wonderful trip to Pawley's Island, SC, where we enjoyed the luxury of a beachfront house with some good friends. Amazingly, the water was warm enough to swim comfortably!

Beyond eating oysters and drinking gin & tonics, we also took the opportunity, to "baptize" Henry, welcoming him into the world with drops of ocean water on his head and a foot dip for him. He loved the ocean, and seemed alternately soothed and energized by the sound of the waves and the feel of the sea breeze. Hopefully we'll get back there soon, and such trips will be a part of Henry's formative first memories.

More pictures to come soon as they roll in from various sources.

Henry's umbilical cord, or "stump" as they are often called, fell off on Sunday, October 2nd!!
Here's a picture of his belly button. What a surprise, it's cute!
